Webinar Description: This 90-minute workshop, led by Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW will explore the importance of understanding and expecting gradual and delayed disclosure when working with survivors of trafficking. This training will cover how neurological responses, cultural and societal barriers, and risk for victimization, criminalization, and further harms can contribute to gradual and delayed disclosure. Dr. Powell will also discuss strategies for building trust with survivors along their journey of disclosure.
Attendees will be able to:
Increase understanding of how neurological trauma responses contribute to gradual and delayed disclosure after human trafficking
Recognize how cultural and societal barriers contribute to gradual and delayed disclosure after human trafficking
Identify strategies for building trust and creating a safe environment that supports gradual and delayed disclosure when working with survivors of human trafficking

About the Presenter
Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW is the CEO & Founder of Shobana Powell Consulting, a consulting firm consisting of national clinical, legal, and lived experience experts who provide training and technical assistance on the intersection of gender-based violence and systemic oppression. Her work focuses on lived experience inclusion, anti-oppression, and vicarious resilience.
Dr. Powell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has provided child and adult trauma therapy, conducted court-ordered forensic mental health and human trafficking evaluations, and developed and led programs around the country that serve those impacted by the commercial sex industry. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Social Work and Spanish from New York University, a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Social Work and Social Innovation from the University of Southern California.
